The Georgia State Patrol post in Rome is saying that speed was definitely a factor in the tragic accident that occurred Thursday morning shortly after 8 AM in Summerville.

Trooper Joseph Swords said that 56 year old Steve Preston White of Trion was traveling on Highland Avenue at a high rate of speed when he hit a curb flipping his 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee on it’s side and skidding into the path of a 1997 Ford Windstar van driven by 47 year old Marsha Linn Kessler of Summerville.  The Jeep ended up on it’s roof.

The State Patrol post in Rome told AM 1180 Chattooga County Radio that White died from injuries sustained in the accident and Kessler along with a passenger, 20 year old Angela Ann Summerlin of Summerville and a 4 year old boy were injured.

The child was transported to T.C. Thompson Medical Center in Chattanooga and Kessler and Summerlin were taken to Floyd Medical Center in Rome.
