A welcoming committee of students, educators, business leaders, and elected officials greeted Georgia’s top educator at LaFayette Middle School on Monday.
State School Superintendent Kathy Cox visited the school, in part, to recognize the school’s recent accomplishment of improved scores on state standardized tests.
Cox said of her visits into many of the classrooms at the school, “I am very, very impressed with what I am seeing so far.”
Cox has been state superintendent since 2003 and recently became the first contestant to win $1 million on the game show Fox TV’s “Are You Smarter Than a Fifth-Grader?” hosted by Georgia native Jeff Foxworthy. Cox is donating the money to schools within the state.
