The State of Georgia is purchasing 740 acres in the Cloudland area at the Southern end of Walker County.

According to reports the state is purchasing the large tract of land from Camp Adahi at Cloudland.  The Camp is operated by the Girl Scout Council of Moccasin Bend.  The sale will not interfere with the Girl Scouts using the camp area, but would protect the land from being developed.

The property borders the Department of Natural Resource’s Zahnd Natural Area, contains the headwaters of the Little River, and features rare habitats, including underground streams, freshwater springs, caves and talus slopes. The easement will be held by the Lookout Mountain Conservancy and will allow for the continued use of 100 acres as a Girl Scout camp while permanently prohibiting development on the remainder of the property.

State Senator Jeff Mullis said that the money for the purchase will be coming from the Georgia Land Conservation Program.  The state recently announced the purchase of McClemore’s Cove from Mtn. Cove Farms which is in the same area.
