The State of Georgia plans to buy 1,564 acres near Lookout and Pigeon Mountain in Walker County.
Yesterday the state Board of Natural Resources unanimously approved plans to purchase the land that would link two state-owned natural areas in Walker County. Steve Friedman of the Department of Natural Resources said that the state has not decided how the land will be managed. Walker County has announced their plans to purchase 275 acres adjacent to the land being purchased by the state.
The land purchase will cost tax payers $8.3 Million and is the largest land purchase by the state since 2005.
