The Georgia State Patrol Post in Rome has released their weekly accident report for Chattooga County.
Last Saturday a Hunstville man was traveling north on Highway 27 near Little Sand Mountain Road when he lost control of his vehicle and left the highway striking a guardrail causing significant damage to his 2004 Toyota pickup. Jon Rice Moody was not injured in the accident.
In a separate accident on Saturday, a Ider, Alabama woman struck the rear of a vehicle driven by Joseph Higginbotham of Summerville on Highway 100 near Old Holland Road. According to the GSP, Higginbothom had slowed for a deer that had crossed the roadway when Imogene Justice Baker struck his 2008 Chevrolet Impala in the rear.
Also last week, on Wednesday, Candy Hammitt of Menlo was traveling east on Trion-Teloga Road and wrecked after a large black dog crossed the roadway near the intersection of Mahan Road. Hammitt struck a mailbox located at 3131 Trion-Teloga Road and overcorrected and struck a culvert. Hammitt then re-entered the roadway and overcorrected again and hit another culvert causing her 2009 Cheverolet Colbalt to vault into the air and come to a rest at 3111 Trion-Teloga Road. Hammitt was transported to Floyd Medical Center by Chattooga County EMS.
On Monday of last week, Olin Emory Ford, Jr. of Summerville was injured in an accident on Hair Lake Road. According to the GSP, Hammitt left the roadway and struck an embankment and then a tree. Ford was cited for DUI and Failure to Maintain a Single Lane in connection with the accident. He was transported to Redmond Regional by Chattooga County EMS.
