“Steam In To Summerville” Railroad Days are here!
Saturday, October 8, will begin the Summerville Better Hometown Program and City of Summerville’s Railroad Days. Every Saturday until November 5 will see the vintage steam engine and train from the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum arrive at the Summerville Depot loaded with passengers from Chattanooga.
The train will arrive around 12:45 pm each Saturday and the passengers will have a 1 ½ hour layover in Summerville where they will be able to enjoy the Railroad Days festivities in Dowdy Park and take a walking tour of historic downtown Summerville with Carlton Thomas from Chattanooga Walking Tours. Mr. Thomas will be providing 30 minute tours for for train passengers and Chattooga County residents alike for $5.
While the passengers are enjoying Summerville’s Dowdy Park and downtown, the steam engine will be rotated on the Summerville turntable, serviced and watered. Many residents enjoy coming to Dowdy Park to watch the turntable in action. The City of Summerville will have staff on hand to welcome the visitors and will be selling train whistles, t-shirts and Summerville postcards inside the Depot.
