On Friday the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) awarded $391,370 in Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) funding to local fire departments and emergency medical services organizations in the state of Georgia. “Through the AFG program, FEMA provides funding to local communities for new equipment and training to help give emergency responders the tools they need to respond effectively to fires and other disasters.” said FEMA Regional Administrator Phil May. The Subligna Fire Department received $118,750 for new vehicle acquisition. The fire department plans to use the money to purchase a new rescue vehicle. Nationally, this week’s grants total $21 million. The AFG program includes three kinds of awards: Fire Grants, Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grants and Fire Prevention and Safety grants (FP&S).
