A Summerville man was in critical condition in a Chattanooga hospital Monday evening after the logging truck he was driving overturned on Highway 201 west of Westside around 2 p.m., officials said.

Freddie Scroggins, an employee of Matt Owens Logging Inc. in Rome, was airlifted to Erlanger Hospital, where he was in emergency care in critical condition, a spokeswoman said. Scroggins is in his 30s, said a spokeswoman for Owens Logging.

The highway was temporarily shut down while the driver was cut out of the truck, said a spokeswoman with the Georgia State Patrol. The wreck was still being investigated Monday night.

Family members of Scroggins have contacted AM 1180 Chattooga County Radio and requested prayers for Mr. Scroggins.
