UPDATE: THE SUMMERVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT HAS APPLIED FOR A WARRANT FOR THE ARREST OF COMMISSIONER JASON WINTERS’ WIFE, ABBEY WINTERS.

Police Detective Brian Ozment confirmed to WZQZ News that the police department is taking out warrants in connection with the incident that happened this morning at the commissioner’s office between Mrs. Winters and Casie Bryant of All on Georgia.

Summerville Police were called to the office of Chattooga County Commissioner Jason Winters this morning after the commissioner’s wife, Abbey Winters, poured a large fountain drink over the head of All on Georgia’s Casie Bryant.

A county budget meeting was about to start when the incident happened.  Mrs. Winters was sitting next to her husband at a conference table when people began to arrive for the meeting.  Mrs. Winters got up from her seat and went to the other side of the room.  Ms. Bryant walked into the conference room at the back of the Commissioner’s Office and sat down at the conference table waiting for the meeting to start.

WZQZ News was at the meeting and observed Mrs. Winters pour the soft-drink on Ms. Bryant.  After pouring the drink on Ms. Bryant, Mrs. Winters said, “You deserve that (expletive)”.  Ms. Bryant did not respond, but began gathering her belongings to leave the meeting.  As Ms. Bryant was leaving, Mrs. Winters was escorted to a private office by Public Works Director Joe Reed.  As she was walking back to the office, Mrs. Winters said “she deserved that.”

In the aftermath of the incident, Commissioner Winters referred to the incident as “an accident” and said that Ms. Bryant “deserved what happened to her.”

Apparently what was at issue were comments that Ms. Bryant had made about the commissioner and his wife on social media.

Summerville Police Detective Brian Ozment and three other police officers arrived on the scene to take statements from witnesses and those involved in the incident.  WZQZ News spoke with Harold Tucker with the Summerville Police Department and said that Commissioner Winters and his wife were going to talk with legal counsel before making a statement to police.

Police indicated that criminal charges could be brought in connection with the incident, but no charges have been filed at this time.

WZQZ News will have more information as it becomes available.
