The National Weather Service has verified that a tornado struck Summerville Friday afternoon, according to Chattooga County Public Works Director Lamar Canada.
Weather service representatives met with Canada and Summerville Fire Chief Greg Echols Saturday and assessed damages around the city. Canada says the tornado is being classified as an EF 2 tornado.
Many residents around the county, not just Summerville, are still cleaning up storm debris and recovering from the storms. Most all power services have been restored around the county.
