Walker County law enforcement officials have identified the suspect that was shot and killed by a Walker County deputy yesterday in the parking lot of Chik-Fil-A in Ft. Oglethorpe.
Police have identified the shooting suspect as 34-year-old John Coates from Rossville, Ga. Officials were attempting to serve an aggravated stalking warrant from the Walker County Sheriff’s Office. The officer who shot the suspect was Walker County sheriff’s deputy Terry Miller.
During the stand off with the suspect, Coates told police he wouldn’t be taken alive. When Ft. Oglethorpe Police officer Mitchell Moore attempted to use a taser on Coats, the suspect shot the officer hitting his bullet proof vest and causing some non-life threatening injuries to the officer. It was at that point the Deputy Miller shot and killed the suspect.
The case was turned over to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
