Chattooga County Tax Commissioner Joy Hampton has scheduled two final tax sales for this year in an effort to collect unpaid taxes.
Hampton told WZQZ News that the first tax sale is scheduled for Tuesday, August 6th. She said that originally, there were 157 properties and that has come down to about 25 properties. She said that some of the properties are houses but most are vacant land. The taxes owed are for 2017 and 2018. Hampton said that she hopes that those property owners will come in before the sale and take care of their tax bills.
The tax commissioner said, “It’s like I always say, it’s never our desire to sell someone’s property. We’re just hoping they will come pay those bills. This our last resort and our last attempt to collect that money.”
Hampton said that another tax sale will be scheduled in September.
