A Chattooga County teenager is dealing with the loss of his best friend who was swept away in the flood waters of the Chattooga River on Monday.  Tyler Gordy and his friend Nikolas Osley jumped into the raging waters of the Chattooga River on Tate Road in Trion because they saw a jeep that was stranded in the water.

The two teens thought someone might have been trapped in the vehicle, however the Jeep that was stuck was not occupied.  Tyler Gordy told the Georgia News Network that he and his friend were “just trying to be heroes.”

Rescue workers searched all night Monday for the missing 14 year old Nikolas Osley but it was not until daylight on Tuesday morning that rescue workers spotted the body.

Chattooga County Sheriff John Everett told AM 1180 Chattooga County Radio that the body was found in some corn stalks in a flooded corn field off of Tate Road. A fund for the funeral expenses of the drowning victim has been set up by his teachers at Summerville Middle School.  Donations can be made at Southeast Federal Credit Union in Trion.
