Two individuals are now facing charges, in connection with the burning of the Harmony Grove Church in Valley Head. According to Dekalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris, his office was contacted shortly after 11:00am Tuesday, regarding a call to 9-1-1 that had come from a concerned citizen. The caller reported meeting a Honda vehicle that was driving erratically, as it pulled out from the Harmony Grove Church parking lot on County Road 239 – the caller then added that the church was on fire. Members of the Hammondville, Mentone and Valley Head Police Departments, including Officers Jeremy Bell and Cecil Cox, responded quickly and pulled over the Honda. The occupants of the vehicle, 18 year old Seth Patrick Wilburn of Ft Payne, and a 17 year old female juvenile, were detained, and both later taken into custody after Deputies and Investigators arrived on the scene. Sheriff Harris said that both Wilburn and the girl are facing charges of 2nd Degree Arson, 3rd Degree Burglary and Theft of Property. He went on to say that several items apparently taken from the church, including a large homemade cross, an amplifier and speakers, have been recovered.
