For the past several years residents of Georgia have enjoyed a "sales tax holiday" which is scheduled before school starts back to let parents purchase school supplies tax-free. This year there will be no sales tax holiday in Georgia. Georgia officials failed to approve a sales tax holiday due to "declining revenue."
Meanwhile, Georgia’s neighboring states are going to offer the sales tax holiday to their residents and many retailers fear that Georgians will be crossing state lines to take advantage. Alabaman, Tennessee and North Carolina have all scheduled a sales tax holiday August 5 – August 7 this year.
