According to Craft’s attorney Clancy Covert, the delay is the result of a custody evaluation that was to have taken place before the actual hearing but is not complete.
“There has been some pre-trial conferencing going on between both sides,” Covert said. “A custody evaluation has also been taking place, and that evaluation would not have been completed by the scheduled hearing on the twenty-second.”
Craft, a former Chickamauga kindergarten teacher, was acquitted in Catoosa County Superior Court in May on 22 counts involving child molestation charges.
Covert says that court-appointed custody evaluator was to look over the case on both sides, but due to a family emergency, the evaluator would be unable to complete the task in time.
“Tonya is trying to do what’s best for her children, as we all are,” Covert said. “Situations such as these take time, and there are certainly going to be hick-ups along the way.”
“We’re continuing to approach this with the best interest of the children and are going to make sure that every-thing is brought up the right way,” Covert said.
In regards to the current situation, Craft offered a brief comment: “Honestly, my only comment is that every sec-ond I spend away from my children is one second too long,” Craft said. “I will continue to fight with only my chil-dren’s best interests at heart.”
