Tonya Craft, who was acquitted of child molestation charges in Catoosa County Superior Court on May 11, has filed a federal lawsuit in Rome against her accusers and the Catoosa County Sheriff’s Office.

The suit was filed today in U.S. District Court in Rome.

She is seeking $25 million in damages, claiming that she was unjustly prosecuted due to lack of evidence and that children who testified against her were coached.

Craft, 37, a former Chickamauga Elementary School kindergarten teacher, was accused of molesting three children. She faced 10 counts of child molestation, six counts of aggravated sexual battery and six counts of aggravated child molestation. She had maintained her innocence since her arrest in June 2008. She was fired from her job at Chickamauga Elementary. Her trial began April 12.
