After the Flood of 2009 passenger rail trains have not been seen in Summerville.  That will all change three weeks from today.  On October 8 the Tennessee Valley Railroad is expected to once again send passenger trains from Chattanooga to Summerville.

The flood badly damaged the railroad in 2009 and while the service was restored to Mt. Vernon Mills in Trion, the rails were not able to support passenger train excursions.  More than 17,000 new crossties have been installed from Chattanooga to Lyerly and the railroad is now ready for the fall passenger trains.

On October 8th the train will roll into Summerville just in time for Pets in the Park.  Each Saturday through November 5th the trains will make a stop at the Summerville Depot.  Other events include:

October 15 – Sequoyah Arts, Crafts and Antiques Show

October 22 – Steamin’ Hot Stew and Chili Cook Off

October 29:  Down Home Day

November 5: Rattling Gourd Art Festival
