Parents of Trion City School students will be receiving a letter from a Certified Public Accounting firm in Rome that was recently hired by the Trion Board of Education to help look for missing funds from the Trion after school program.
The Trion BOE has retained the services of Whittington, Jones and Rudert, CPAs, PC, Rome, “to confirm the revenue of the After School Program for the 2010-2011 school year.”
The firm is sending written confirmations to parents to determine that the revenue recorded for the 2010-2011 school year "approximates" what was received for that year. If the firm finds that parents say they paid more than what is shown the matter will be turned over to law enforcement for investigation.
Trion City School Superintendent Phil Williams has stated that no one is being accused of any wrongdoing. However, if an audit finds that there was criminal activity involved in the missing funds, a criminal investigation could occur.
Around $60,000 is believed to be missing from the after-school program at Trion Schools.
