The 51 year old organist at the Trion First Baptist Church remains in the Chattooga County Jail charged with stealing over $50,000 from the church.

According to reports, Chattooga County Sheriff Investigator Larry Kellett stated that Marsha Sue Giddens is accused of stealing the money over the past year.  According to Kellett, the woman used fraudulant bank statements and forged checks in order to deceive the church members and steal the money.  Gibbens is charged with 68 counts of of forgery and 2 counts of theft by taking.

The church became aware of the missing funds when First National Bank called last week to tell the church that their bank account was over-drawn.  The church pastor, Dr. Floyd Roebuck and the deacons thought that there was over $25,000 in the church’s checking account.
