Trion resident Laura DeLay was recently honored with an EAGLE award.EAGLE stands for Exceptional Adult Georgian in Literacy Education. It is the first statewide program in the nation that recognizes and rewards excellence among students enrolled in the adult literacy programs, such as the G.E.D. program. Since 1993, the Exceptional Adult Georgian in Literacy Education program has been held to recognize students enrolled in adult literacy classes. Since its inception in 1993, the EAGLE Awards Program has honored nearly 1,600 students.
DeLay earned her G.E.D. after being laid off by a business in Trion. The mother of two, who is expecting one more, is pursuing a Practical Nursing Degree through Northwestern Technical College.
