Trion Police Chief Chad Spraggins told local media that the reason that Trion was turned down by the Lookout Mountain Drug Task Force for membership was because Chattooga County already has a drug task force, the Chattooga County Narcotics Unit. Spraggins also reportedly stated that the Lookout Mountain Drug Task Force was upset with the way agents had been treated by Superior Court Judge Kristina Cook Graham. Graham was reprimanded by the Georgia Judicial Qualifications Commission for the incident which involved LMDTF and GBI agents.
The Chattooga County Narcotics Unit was started by Sheriff John Everett who fulfilled a campaign pledge to pull the county out of the Lookout Mountain Drug Task Force when he was elected. The Town of Trion was initially part of the Chattooga County Narcotics Unit but had recently pulled out of the county’s drug task force. Sheriff Everett told reporters that he would continue to assist Trion in drug investigations.
