In yet another example of the difficulties facing the U.S., Food Stamps are now used by 46 million people or 15% of the population. The program`s costs have more than doubled to $68 billion per year.

That amounts to roughly 1/3 of every dollar the U.S. receives in corporate taxes. If the economy continues to slow, that percentage may increase dramatically.

Program costs could also rise dramatically. Estimates are that 50% more people would be eligible for the program if they applied.
