The Tennessee Valley Authority is celebrating its 75th Anniversary today May 18th.  Since 1933 the TVA has been supplying power to residents of Tennessee, Alabama and Georgia.  The project which was begun in President Franklin Roosevelt’s administration involves the taming of the 652 mile Tennessee River that was dammed for power and flood control and made navigable for transportation in many areas.  Over 8 Million residents, including around 90,000 in Northwest Georgia are served by the TVA.  In Chattooga County members of the North Georgia Electric Membership Corporation receive their power from the TVA.  Today, the TVA is seeking to be self-sufficient and has plans to purchase or build even more power plants including nuclear reactors to supply the ever-increasing demand for power for residents in the Tennessee Valley.
