A small plane crashed Thursday morning just after takeoff from the Cartersville Airport in Bartow County.

Two men aboard the plane were injured and taken to the hospital, Bartow County Fire Chief Craig Millsap told Channel 2 Action News in Atlanta.

Millsap said the two-passenger single engine plane had problems during take-off and crashed at the end of the runway.

The two people injured suffered non-life threatening injuries and are expected to be OK. Dent Thompson with the Cartersville Airport said one of the men was admitted into the hospital and the other was still in the emergency room.

Kathleen Bergen with the Federal Aviation Administration said the aircraft was a home-built plane registered to Wayne O. Robinson of Dallas, Ga. She was unsure whether he was on the plane when it crashed.

Thompson said because the plane was so small, no one noticed the downed plane for awhile until one of the men was able to get to his cell phone and call the airport. Once the airport was notified, they contacted emergency officials.
