David E. Nahmias, the United States Attorney for the Northern District of Georgia, announced yesterday that he will resign on August 23rd, to be appointed by Governor Sonny Perdue as a Justice of the Supreme Court of Georgia.
Nahmias was sworn in as the United States Attorney in Atlanta on December 1, 2004, after being nominated by President George W. Bush and confirmed unanimously by the Senate.
In a statement issued Wednesday, Nahmias said “I am very proud of the accomplishments of my office over the past five years and of the professional way we have gone about our work. I am deeply honored by my appointment as a Justice, and I look forward to beginning my service on the Supreme Court of Georgia.”
