A former Fort Payne postal worker has been indicted for stealing mail. The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Alabama, Middle Division, returned the indictment against April Dawn Long, 32, of Dutton.
According to the indictment, Long – while working as a postal employee – stole an unspecified quantity of mail between Sept. 1, 2009 and Oct. 19, 2009.
In November 2009, Fort Payne Postmaster Mary Jo Crabtree said that a former postal worker was being investigated on suspicion of taking mail, but would not release the name of the worker.
Postal Service investigators subsequently recovered about 2,500 pieces of missing mail, apparently taken by Long, and sent it out.
