While the national unemployment rate continues to rise, the South is being very hard hit. In fact Georgia, Tennessee and Alabama are all reporting unemployment rates of 7%. Mississippi has a slightly higher unemployment rate at 7.2%. Meanwhile, Alabama has the lowest unemployment rate in the Deep South with around 5.6% of Alabama workers applying for Unemployment.
Economist are predicting that the national unemployment rate could reach 9% during these hard economic times.
