We are learning more now about the abduction of the 20 year old woman yesterday by escaped inmate Johnny Mack Brown.
According to the information we have at this time, the woman was at home around 4 PM yesterday afternoon when Brown entered the residence and held her at knife point. Brown demanded some clean clothes and then took the woman in a car. The woman was abducted in the area of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church just south of Summerville going towards Taylors Ridge.
Chattooga County Sheriff Ralph Kellet told AM 1180 Chattooga County Radio that his department along with the Department of Natural Resources, and the Georgia Department of Corrections floated the Chattooga River yesterday searching for clues. Kellett said that he believes that action flushed the escaped inmates from their hiding place.
On Sunday two pairs of prison pants had been found near the river, which caused law enforcement to begin to focus their attention towards the area of the Chattooga River in their search for the inmates.
The 20 year old woman was released unharmed by the inmate. She was picked up by Chattooga County deputies and returned to her family in the early hours of this morning.
The Commissioner of the Department of Corrections is holding a press conference at Hays Prison this morning at 10:30 regarding the incident.
