Cherokee County law enforcement officials have now received additional information, regarding a body found in a remote area of the county, off of Highway 68, back on October 1st.

According to preliminary reports from the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences, it has been determined that the body was that of a female.

Two individuals – who were scouting hunting land, in the area near Tabor Road – discovered the body that Saturday afternoon – and the pair quickly notified authorities.

According to Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver the body was so badly decomposed that at the time, investigators were unable to determine if it was male or female.

The Sheriff said the investigation is ongoing – and attempts are currently being made to establish the identity of the individual and to determine an exact cause of death.
