Six agencies worked together on Wednesday night, June 11th to take down an upper-level drug dealer in the Jamestown Community of Cherokee County. Drug agents, Deputies, and Officers from Cherokee County Narcotics Unit and Sheriff`s Department, Dekalb County Drug Task Force, DeKalb County Sheriff`s Department, Ft. Payne PD, Mentone PD, and Chattooga County, Georgia Drug Task Force, arrested Gary Sleepy Coker of Gaylesville. Coker, age 52, had been under investigation by the Cherokee County Narcotics Unit for approximately eight months after it received numerous complaints and informant tips about drug activity at his residence. CNU agents had already been working in conjunction with the Chattooga County, Georgia Drug Task Force, who had been receiving information about Mr. Coker as well. It took a tip, given to Agent Jim Phillips of the DeKalb County Drug Task Force, to kick things off. Agent Phillips had the key that led to the seizure of over $98,000.00 cash, four and one-half ounces of methamphetamine ice, and a quantity of marijuana all packaged for resale. Coker was not considered a garden variety drug dealer.
