AM 1180 Chattooga County Radio told you about a veterinarian in the Centre, AL area that was allegedly shot by intruders and his clinic set on fire.  Now authorities in Alabama say that the veterinarian caused the entire incident himself, including shooting himself twice. Law enforcement officials say that Dr. Jerry Handley is now in custody, after confessing to fabricating the story surrounding the events, and carrying out the shooting and arson fire, which took place at his own animal clinic on Highway 411, back on April 24th. Handley has been charged with 2nd Degree Arson; seven counts of Cruelty to Animals; and Filing a False Report to Law Enforcement Authorities. According to reports two dogs and five cats died in the fire.  At this point the doctor has given no explanation or motive, for his actions on that night, however there has been conjecture that insurance money could have played a role in the case. Handley is currently in the Etowah County Detention Center on a $100,000 bond and is expected to face a Grand Jury sometime in September.
