Dekalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris stated that an Emergency 9-1-1 call was received on Wednesday afternoon by the Sheriff’s Department concerning an apparent drowning near the dam, located off of County Road 106.

The caller reported that the victim was still in the river at the time of the call, which came in shortly before 5:00pm.

Dekalb County Deputies and emergency responders from Mentone Fire, Desoto Rescue, the Dekalb Ambulance Service and the Fischer Rescue Squad arrived on the scene to find 46 year old Bobby Wayne Davis in the East Fork of Little River just below the Dam.

Davis was removed from the water and pronounced dead at the scene by Coroner Tom Wilson. Witness statements indicated that Davis along with two friends had gone to the area to cook out and swim.

Witnesses also stated that alcohol was consumed during the day and Davis appeared to be intoxicated just prior to the accident.

It now appears that Davis fell from the top of the Dam and struck a concrete spillway before going into a pool of water just below the dam. The Fischer Rescue Squads High Angle Rescue Team recovered Davis body and Coroner Tom Wilson removed it from the scene for further examination and forensic testing.

While at the accident scene, authorities also determined that two of the witnesses present had outstanding warrants.

Sergeant Gary Brown arrested Heather Plunk on a warrant for Failure to Appear, while Deputy Willie Underwood arrested Heather Bell on a Fugitive from Justice Warrant out of Georgia.

Both of those subjects were transported to the Dekalb County Detention Center.
