Vulcan Materials Company in Ft Payne, has been name the winner of the 2009 Small Alabama Manufacturer of the Year award.

The Business Council of Alabama and the Alabama Technology Network, in partnership with the Chamber of Commerce Association of Alabama and the National Association of Manufacturers gives the award annually.

Vulcan Materials Company is the country’s largest producer of construction aggregates, producing crushed stone, asphalt, concrete and cement.

Vulcan took over the struggling operation in May of 2007, and has since transformed it into a leading corporate citizen in Ft Payne and the DeKalb County area.

Representatives with the company stated that even with the economic downturn in 2008, the Ft Payne Quarry exceeded its prior year sales volume. The plant also engineered and produced two new products at the request of its customers, which seem likely to produce additional future sales, and revenue increases.
