The news that Volkswagen is building a plant in Chattanooga could mean jobs for Northwest Georgia.  To date Georgia has had one of the highest jumps in unemployment in recent history and Chattooga County continues to have one of the highest unemployment rates in the state, hovering around 9%.  Confirmation came on Tuesday that the new automobile plant would be built at Enterprise South in Hamilton County, located about 40 miles north of Chattooga County.  Local business and political leaders say that the new auto plant could mean as many as 15,000 new jobs.  That figure includes 2,000 intitial plant hires plus the prospect of many support jobs throughout the tri-state area.
