It now appears that Walker County employees won’t have to take furloughs to help out with the budget shortfall in that county. Earlier this year Walker County Commissioner Bebe Heiskell had announced that county employees could face furloughs. Heiskell met with department heads and other elected officials in Walker County and made the determination that the furloughs were not needed at this time due to cut backs in other areas. In fact it now appears that the budget shortfall may not be as bad as once expected. Walker County has seen more income arrive in the county and the shortfall has shrunk from $1.7 million to around one-half million dollars. WQCH – Walker County Messenger
