THE HOME HEALTH CARE WORKER, ACCUSED OF SEXUALLY-ABUSING AN ELDERLY PATIENT FROM ROSSVILLE, HAS BEEN SENTENCED TO 3 LIFE TERMS IN PRISON.
TOM SCROGGINS PLEADED GUILTY AS HIS TRIAL BEGAN MONDAY MORNING IN WALKER COUNTY SUPERIOR COURT. CHARGES AGAINST SCROGGINS INCLUDED 3 COUNTS OF AGGRAVATED SODOMY, 2 COUNTS EACH OF AGGRAVATED BATTERY AND SIMPLE BATTERY AND ONE COUNT EACH OF AGGRAVATED SEXUAL BATTERY AND SEXUAL BATTERY.
HIS VICTIM WAS 81-YEAR OLD BUD WILKINSON… A VETERAN OF THE KOREAN WAR… A FORMER PRISONER OF WAR… AND FORMER ASSISTANT FIRE CHIEF FOR THE ROSSVILLE DEPARTMENT. HE DIED IN FEBRUARY, A FEW MONTHS AFTER HIS FAMILY DISCOVERED THE ABUSE WITH A HIDDEN "NANNY-CAM". THEY BECAME SUSPICIOUS OF HIS HEALTH CARE WORKER WHEN THEY SAW BRUISING ON HIS BODY.
SCROGGINS MUST SERVE 55 YEARS BEFORE HE COULD BE ELIGIBLE FOR PAROLE… AT THAT TIME HE WOULD BE AGE 91.
