The Walker County School system has opted for a longer summer break….but it comes with a price.  The students in the Walker County School system will not have to return to class after the summer until August 16th, but they will be required to have longer school days.

The Walker County School system said that there are mulitiple reasons for the move to a longer summer break.  One key reason would be to include students that retested for Adequate Yearly Progress over the summer, gain-ing a true measure of standings in the No Child Left Behind benchmarks.

The school system will go from a 180 day school calendar to a 169 day school calendar.
