The National Weather Service is saying that the Northwest Georgia area could see some heavy thunderstorms this evening and some severe weather is expected. Just to the west of Chattooga County, DeKalb County and Cherokee County in Alabama is under a Tornado Watch until 9 PM Central Time this evening.
AM 1180 spoke with Chattooga County officials this afternoon about the weather situation. Chattooga County EMA Director Eddie Henderson and Chattooga County Commissioner Jason Winters are monitoring the weather situation. Tonight: Showers and thunderstorms before 2am, then thunderstorms likely after 2am. Some of the storms could be severe. Low around 62. South wind between 10 and 15 mph becoming calm. Winds could gust as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
