Chattooga County residents were without internet service late Friday evening and for much of the day on Saturday. Sources told AM 1180 that the problem was caused by damage to a major fiber-optics line that serves the 706 area code through Windstream.
Due to the downed fiberoptic line, AM 1180 was off the air Saturday morning until around 11:30 AM. The damaged fibreoptic line also caused some problems for Chattooga County 911 and local law enforcement. Chattooga County EMA Director Eddie Henderson was in contact with Windstream throughout the day on Saturday.
Internet service was restored to Chattooga County shortly before 5 PM on Saturday afternoon.
