Numerous reports of out of hand fires have been called in over the past several days in Chattooga County and some residents are getting very concerned. The dry conditions along with wind have caused fires to get out of control and the National Weather Service was warning parts of Northwest Georgia on Monday against outdoor burning.
According to the Georgia Forestry service, a good portion of Chattooga County falls into the the "high" warning area. Residents should remember that in order to burn outdoors they need to apply for a burn permit. The Georgia Forestry commission will only issue permits when conditions are favorable for outdoor burning.
