A 55 year old woman was killed in an accident at the intersection of Highway 27 and Highway 156 on Thursday afternoon.  The accident shut down traffic on Highway 27’s northbound lanes for a short period of time between 5 and 6 PM.

According to Trooper Abraham Chiesa of the Georgia State Patrol:

Joanne Chapman, 55, of New Rosedale Road, was attempting to make a left turn from Ga. 156 onto U.S. 27 when her SUV was struck in the driver’s side door by the truck. The driver of the truck was Tracy Kelly, 41, of Geraldine, Ala., who was on his way home, Chiesa said.

No citations will be issued.

“The cause was her failing to yield,” Chiesa said. “The tractor-trailer driver was not speeding.”

Chapman was pronounced dead at Redmond Regional Medical Center, said Floyd County Deputy Coroner Gene Proctor.
