A Shannon woman died Saturday after an afternoon wreck on Martha Berry Highway, Deputy Coroner Gene Proctor said.

Mavis Louise Miller, 81, of a Shannon address, died around 4 p.m. at Redmond Regional Medical Center, Proctor said.

The wreck occurred around 2:45 p.m. Saturday near Bojangles on Martha Berry Highway near Mount Berry Square, police reported.

According to police at the scene:

A white Plymouth Sundance, driven by Miller, 81, was traveling northbound on Martha Berry Highway and was attempting to turn into Bojangles when it collided with a southbound green Honda Civic, driven by Harlie Simmons, 18, of Rome, and then a white Ford Contour, driven by George Shaw, 63, of Rome.

The Sundance left the roadway and struck a support column at the Sun Trust bank drive-through, causing some structural damage.

Simmons was also injured and taken to the hospital.
