More than 50 women turned out to the women’s gun class hosted by the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Department Thursday night. The class was aimed at teaching women about gun safety and to make women familiar with firearms.
Sheriff John Everett, Probate Judge Johnn Payne, Magistrate Judge Tracy Maddux and retired Federal Law Enforcement firearms instructor Wayne Chappell were the presenters for the evening. Several guns were displayed and women were given the opportunity to handle the gun and see how it works. Wayne Chappell spoke about the fundamentals of marksmanship, John Payne spoke about the firearms license procedure and laws regarding carrying guns, Tracy Maddux and Sheriff Everett spoke with women about safety techniques with and without firearms.
The presenters were very informative and the class was a great success. The group hopes to host more classes in the future.
