Chattooga County, Georgia authorities piece together evidence in their investigation of an apparent murder-suicide. Sheriff Ralph Kellett says a call came in Wednesday evening at 5:12pm to 911 that a man had shot and killed himself.
Officers arrived at the scene of 1390 Mitchell Circle where they found the body of a man in the backyard with a note nearby, saying he had killed himself . The note also had information on the death of another man. Officers searched the property and found the body of another man 200 yards away in a pond with a gunshot wound to the head.
Sheriff Ralph Kellet confirms that evidence leads them to believe the two men fought at the home with one man shooting another then dumping the dead man’s body in a pond. Sheriff Kellett says the dead man was reported missing over the weekend.
The gunman’s one year old son was at a home next door with his grandmother when the shooting happened. Kellett said the shooter had a past criminal history that included domestic violence and traffic violations.
Kellett said he would release the name of the shooter and the victim after relatives had been notified.
