The Georgia State Patrol Post in Rome is confirming two fatalities in a wreck that happened Monday afternoon on Highway 114 in Chattoogaville.  The accident happened near Sardis Baptist Church just north of the Alabama State Line.  Trooper Swords with the patrol post stated that there were at least 7 State Troopers on the scene of the accident.

According to wittnesses on the scene a small compact car was struck by a Frito Lay Truck.  Chattooga County EMS along with local fire departments, the Chattooga County Sheriffs Department and the Georgia State Patrol responded to the accident.

Charlie Cardwell of the Chattoogaville community was one of the fatalities in the accident.  Cardwell was a native a Trion and lived on Sardis Church Road.  He was a veteran of WW II.  Funeral arrangements for Mr. Cardwell are set for 1 PM at the Freedom Fellowship in Summerville on Friday.

AM 1180 Chattooga Radio News has contacted the Georgia State Patrol Post in Rome this morning at 5:30, 6:00 and 7:00 AM  who told us that there was no one at the post in Rome available to confirm the fatalities in the accident.  AM1180 also contacted the Chattooga County Sheriff’s office who said that they did not have the names of the fatalities available and suggested we contact Chattooga County 911.  Chattooga County 911 told us that we would have to get the names from the Georgia State Patrol Post in Rome.  We hope to have confirmation and more information this morning both on the air and online.
