Some Snow Today – Possibly More Tomorrow

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Chattooga County this morning until 11 AM.  The National Weather Service in Peachtree City says that an upper-level disturbance will spread snow and possibly some sleet across Northwest Georgia, including Chattooga County this morning.  Snow began to fall in many areas of the county around 3 AM.  We could see anywhere from a dusting to 2 inches of snow between the early morning hours and 2 PM.

All eyes are on the next weather system moving into the area tomorrow.  A low pressure system across South Georgia could spread winter precipitation across our area starting around 11 AM on Wednesday morning and going through Thursday.  Because the National Weather Service anticipates accumulating snow, a Winter Weather Watch has been issued at this time.

Pleas pay attention to the weather closely for the next 24-36 hours.

Cannabis Legalization Takes Next Step in Georgia

A bill to use cannabis oil in Georgia to treat seizure disorders, Lou Gehrig`s Disease, cancer, multiple sclerosis, fibromyalgia, Parkinson`s disease, mitochondrial disease and Crohn`s Disease has passed the Georgia House Judiciary Non-Civil Committee. Republican Rep. Allen Peake of Macon says he hopes the bill, which passed Monday, will progress through both the Rules Committee and the full House this week.

Peake added that while he expects the Senate to modify the bill, he`s confident at least some of it will become law.

Gov. Nathan Deal has been quoted before that he is hoping to sign a bill legalizing cannabis oil.

Former Shorter Student Sues Over Security Breech

A former Shorter University student has filed a class action suit following the theft of over 900 personal record from the school`s athletics office. Erin Bishop, a Shorter Cheerleader from 2008-2009, is seeking for class action status, attorney fees and expenses, exemplary and punitive damages and for all costs of the proceedings.

Bishop, who now lives out of state, said that she did not know about the stolen files until she recently made a report with the Rome Police Department. She said that when she went to get her tax return filled out in late January she was told that someone had already used her Social Security number and personal information to file her return and get her refund.

Reports said that the school left the doors unlocked and allowed someone accessibility into the file room and get the student athlete`s personal information.

Bishop claims the university was negligent in their actions.

The investigation into the theft of the records is continuing.

COOSA VALLEY NEWS

Man Strikes Plow in Dad’s Field and Goes to Jail

A man's father called the law on him Sunday when he backed into a plow in a field driving his father's truck.  According to the report released yesterday, the incident happened on Highway 48 in Summerville.  When law enforcement arrived on the scene the father told them that his son had driven into the plow in the field.  The son, identified in the report as Steven LaBron Lemming, told the deputy that he saw his sister coming down the road and backed the truck up and couldn't get it to stop before striking the plow.  The sister said that she had seen Lemming driving down the wrong side of the road.  It was discovered that Lemming had suspended license.  He was taken to the Chattooga County Jail on charges of driving with suspended or revoked license.
