Mrs. Caroline Louise Geise Ellenburg, Obit (ER)

Caroline Louise Geise Ellenburg passed away on Tuesday August 18th, 2026 at Pruitt Health Nursing Home in Rome GA. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio June 3, 1933 to the late Emil Carl Geise and Lonie Bohannon Geise. She moved with her family to Georgia when she was three years old. Caroline spent her early years in Cleveland before moving to Georgia, where she built a life centered around her faith, family, and community. She graduated from Gore High School in 1950 and was a member of Horizon Baptist Fellowship in Summerville.

Caroline was preceded in death by her loving husband of 51 years William E Ellenburg, son Johnny Ellenburg and sisters Frances DeBerry and Dolores Marshall.

She is survived by her three children and spouses, Eddy and Jackie Ellenburg of Chattoogaville, GA, Terri and Jerry Floyd of Chatsworth, GA, Tammy and Jerry Jackson of Ringgold, GA and daughter-in-law Deborah Cleveland widow of the late Johnny Ellenburg.

Grandchildren and spouses Blake and Cameron Dunagan, Jeremy and Beth Floyd, Dr Mark and Kristen Floyd, Emily and Joe Costolnick, Matt Ellenburg and Eli Jackson. Great grandchildren Kate, Anna, Caleb, Andrew Floyd, Jakob and Caroline Floyd, Sophi Taylor, Tyler Costolnick, Rachel Dunagan, and Kayleigh and Madilynn Ellis.

Funeral Services will be Sunday August 23, 2026, at 3:00pm in the J.D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with the Reverend Dalen Jackson and Jeremy Floyd officiating. Pallbearers are Jeremy Floyd, Dr Mark Floyd, Matt Ellenburg, Eli Jackson, Joe Costolnick and Cameron Dunagan.

The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service. Interment will be in the Summerville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Horizon Baptist Fellowship.

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff at Pruitt Health in Rome for their loving care of mother.

Mrs. Alice M. Black, Obit (M)

On August 14th, 2026, Alice M. Black, a cherished mother, grandmother (Nanna), and sister, went home to be with Jesus at the age of 82.

Alice was born on October 31st, 1943, in Gaylesville AL. Throughout her 82 years on this Earth, she beautifully exemplified the virtuous woman described in Proverbs 31. She looked well to the ways of her household, and the teaching of kindness was always on her tongue. Her children rise up and call her blessed.

Alice worked at Munich American Reinsurance for 47 years where she managed the microfilm department. Alice’s home was always open, and she welcomed and fed all. She attended Faith Baptist Church in Menlo, GA.

Her unwavering faith in Christ was the anchor of her life. She taught her family the power of prayer, the importance of scripture, and the beauty of unconditional love. Her love of Christ guided her steps every single day.

She is survived by her loving children, Alan and JoAnne Black, And Kimberly Brumit; her grandchildren, Taylor Fehr, Justice Fehr, Kenneth Black, Ashlee Stoker, Nicholas Black, Douglas Brumit, And Skylor Fehr and her great grandchildren, Sabastian, Isabella, Declan, and Salem. She was welcomed into Heaven by her Savior, her parents, Amos H. and Clarabell Mitchell, her brothers, Charles Mitchell and Gary Mitchell and her sisters, Isabell Zolnik, Jackie Mitchell, Bonnie Moesnner, and Shirley Meek.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, August 19, 2026, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Scott Quinn officiating.  Interment will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens.  Pallbearers will be Justice Fehr, Kenneth Black, Nicholas Black, Douglas Brumit, Skylor Fehr, and Grant Dahl.

Ms. Black will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 12:00 Noon until the hour of service on Wednesday.

Mrs. Mary Lou Hegwood, Obit (M)

Mrs. Mary Lou Hegwood, age 86, of Cloudland, GA, died Saturday, August 15, 2026, at Atrium Health Floyd.

Mrs. Hegwood was born June 18, 1940, in Cloudland, daughter of the late Gordon Nathaniel Key and Helen Holbrook Key.

Known to her grandchildren as “Granny Bird,” she enjoyed spending time with her grandkids and great-grandkids.  She also loved spending time with friends and acquaintances that she got to know and love while working with Jane at the beauty shop.  She enjoyed her Tuesday trips to Trade Day with Fran and she loved sitting on her back porch with Yogi watching the cows.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ross Hegwood, Sr.; a son, Barry Hegwood; sister, Bonnie Harris, a brother, Phil Key; son-in-law, Lamar Canada; and nephews, Jamie Harris and Josh Key.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, William Ross “Yogi” and Shanne Hegwood; daughter, Jane Hegwood Canada; grandchildren, Justin (Brook) Canada, Patrick (Lacey) Canada, Billy (Grace) Hegwood, Amy Ferguson, Kevin (Sherida) Canada, Nathan (Halle) Hegwood, and Natalie (David) Fletcher; great-grandchildren, Carson Canada, Layla DeBoard, Hank Canada, Lily Canada, Khloe Canada, Kamryn Canada, Evan Fletcher, Callie Fletcher, Lyna Fletcher, Charlie Hegwood, Scarlette Hegwood, and Hazel Hegwood.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 P.M. Tuesday, August 18, 2026, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Chris Key officiating.  Interment will follow in Mount Olive Cemetery.  Active pallbearers will be Justin Canada, Patrick Canada, Billy Hegwood, Nathan Hegwood, Carson Canada, David Fletcher, Evan Fletcher, Hank Canada, and Charlie Hegwood.  Honorary pallbearers will be her friends from Design Cuts, Dennis Hartline, and her friends from Trade Day.

Mrs. Gail Moseley, Obit. (M)

Mrs. Gail Moseley, age 71, of Lyerly, GA, died Thursday, August 13, 2026, at her residence.

Mrs. Moseley was born May 24, 1955, in Fort Payne, AL, daughter of the late John Howard Marshall and Mildred June Wade Marshall.  She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, and prior to her retirement, was employed with Mohawk Industries in Lyerly.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Moseley was preceded in death by her brothers, Charles Marshall and Frankie Marshall; and a sister, Debbie Smith.

Survivors include her husband, Dennis Moseley; son, Richard (Robin) Grimes; daughter, Jessica (Matt) Thornton; brother, Steve (Ginger) Marshall; grandchildren, Jerzie Mobbs, Ryder Mobbs, Evan Fletcher, Callie Fletcher, Luke Thornton, Clay Thornton, Kristian Mobbs, and Haley Studdard; and 4 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, August 15, 2026, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gary Munson and Rev. Mr. Steve McClain, age 70, of Summerville, GA, passed from this life on Sunday, August 9, 2026.

Mr. McClain was born July 10, 1956, in LaFayette, GA, to the late Charles McClain and Sarah Durham McClain.

Survivors include his long-time companion, Charlotte Taylor; his son, Chris (Kimberly) Butler; daughter, Christy (J.L.) Villaroel; sister, Shelia (Randy) Mills; 8 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; special friends, Tina McGuire, Marty McGuire, Phil McGuire, Ricky Johnson, and Sheila Wilson Hill.

Graveside and interment services to celebrate the life of Mr. McClain will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at Subligna Cemetery with Rev. Mr. Sidney A. (Butch) Lanier Jr., Obit. (ER)

MR. SIDNEY A. (BUTCH) LANIER, JR., age 71, of Summerville, Georgia, passed away Saturday morning, August 8, 2026, in a Rome hospital following a brief illness. Mr. Lanier was born October 3, 1954, in Summerville, Georgia, to the late Sidney A. (Buddy) Lanier, Sr. and Dora Ann Lanier, who survives. He was a member of the Summerville Presbyterian Church, PCA and employed by Southern Company Georgia Power as an Environmental Compliance Analyst.

 

Surviving are His wife, Suzann Lanier; daughter, Alexandra Lanier Sandeford (Jacob); son, Sidney A. Lanier, III; granddaughter, Lanier Sandeford; mother, Dora Ann Lanier; sister, Joanna (Steve) Lively; brothers, Steve (Ginger) Lanier and Scott (Missy) Lanier; several Nieces and Nephews.

 

Funeral services will be held Monday, August 10th, at 3:00 P.M. from the Summerville Presbyterian Church, PCA, with Rev. Bob Eckardt officiating, interment in Summerville Cemetery. Mr. Jimmy B. Palmour, Obit (C)

Mr. Jimmy B. Palmour, age 89 of the Spring Creek Community, passed away Friday, August 7, 2026 at his residence.

Mr. Palmour was born in Summerville, Georgia on May 5, 1937, son of the late Samuel Grady Palmour and Georgia Weaver Palmour. He was an ordained deacon, a member of the Pennville Baptist Church and had been attending the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Mr. Palmour was a veteran of the United States Army, where he served during peace time between the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He was an electrician by trade, working for the TVA and Teems Electric, and was a member of the IBEW Local 175 in Chattanooga. Mr. Palmour was a member of the former Old Time Picking and Grinning Group, the Serenaders Band and a former member of the Wildlife Association and the Liar’s Table at Jim’s Restaurant. He enjoyed being out on his John Deere tractor and spending time with his family.

In addition to his family, Mr. Palmour was preceded in death by two sisters, Maxine Palmour and Frances Palmour.

Mr. Palmour is survived by his wife, Judy Palmour; son and daughter-in-law, Jay and Beth Palmour; daughter, Georgianna Palmour; brother and sister-in-law, Grady and Ann Palmour; grandson, Christopher Ward; and nephews, Sam Palmour, Mack Palmour and Cooper Palmour.

Funeral Services for Mr. Palmour will be held Sunday, August 9, 2026 at 3:00 P.M. in the chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Rev. James Baird and Rev. David Romine officiating. Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery.

The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as pallbearers and should assemble at Coffman Funeral Home at 2:30 P.M. Sunday: John Weaver, Rickey Broome, D.J. Driver, Tracy McWhorter, Sheriff Mark Schrader and Scott Coley.

MR. ROBERT ALVIN (BOB) BLACKWELL, age 79, of Summerville, Georgia went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 6, 2026. He was born January 18, 1947 to the late John and Sara Martin Blackwell. Mr. Blackwell was retired from the maintenance department of Mohawk Industries. Bob was hard working, devoted family man, who enjoyed antique stores, old trucks, porch sitting, and tinkering in his shop. Above all, he loved his Family deeply and spent his life helping and sacrificing to make their lives better. His steady presence, generous heart, and quiet acts of love will be deeply missed. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, the late Dianne Smith Blackwell, his brothers, the late Ralph, Tommy, Ronald, and Bill Blackwell and a sister, the late Wanda Prather.

 

Surviving are, daughters, Mary Ann (Donny) Blackwell, Karen (Steve) Odom, and Renee Blackwell; grandchildren, Brittney (Michael) Nicholson, Dustin Blackwell, Erika (Keith) Simmons, Sara Jo Haney, and Jacob (Kayla) Odom; great grandchildren, Jet Johnson, Evie and Molly Nicholson, Dartey Robert and Sutton Blackwell, Sophia and Greyson Simmons, and Cooper Hedgecloth; siblings, Donald (Nancy) Blackwell, Sara Anna (Mike) Stoker, Danny Ray (Christy) Blackwell, and Gary (Teresa) Blackwell; sisters-in-law, Betty Smith and Cindy Cotton; several Nieces and Nephews.

Mr. Jonathan Clifford “Johnny” Gregg, Obit. (C)

Mr. Jonathan Clifford “Johnny” Gregg, age 82 of Cartersville, Georgia passed away Sunday, August 2, 2026 at his residence.

Mr. Gregg was born in Subligna, Georgia on March 26, 1944, son of the late Milburn Hugh Gregg and Myrtle Carrie Houser Gregg.  He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving during the Vietnam War and was retired from Lockheed.  Mr. Gregg was an avid model train enthusiast and had built many train and city models. He also enjoyed woodworking, where he built cabinets and furniture.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Gregg was preceded in death by his son, Larry Gregg; two brothers, W.B. Scott and Lamar Gregg; and a brother-in-law, Tony Scott.

Mr. Gregg is survived by his wife, Karen Gregg; sister, Sue Scott; nieces and nephews, Jeff and Heather Coley, Jamie and Miranda Coley, Jerry Lynn Coley, Donna and Vick Sykes, Danny Scott and Ricky and Debbie Scott; and a number of additional nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members.

Memorial Inurnment Services for Mr. Gregg will be held Thursday, August 6, 2026 at 2:00 P.M. in the Green Hills Memory Gardens with Rev. Jeff Shaver officiating. The United States Navy will be in charge of Military Funeral Honors.

There will be no formal visitation.

MRS. EDITH LEE BIRGE, age 84, of Trion, Georgia, passed away Wednesday afternoon, July 29, 2026, in the local nursing home. She was born in Berryton, Georgia on November 5, 1941, a daughter of the late Odis Lee Ponder and Jewell Houston Chapman Ponder Ledbetter. Mrs. Birge was a homemaker; in addition to Parents, was preceded in death by twin sons, the late Terry and Jerry Birge, and brothers, the late Robert Ponder and Alton Ponder.

 

Surviving are Her husband, Rev. Billie Birge; daughter, Melissa (Chris “Corndog”) Hardin; sons, Randy (Shiela) Green, Timothy Ray, and Malcolm (Elaine) Birge; brothers, Vernon (Dean) Ponder and Anthony (Sabrine) Ledbetter; grandchildren, Kelle Green, Randy (Tracy) Green, Benton (Renee) Birge, Sara (Michael) Bumbalough, Kelsey Howell (Jessie Brown), Chloe Ray, Cameron (Cotton) Ray, Dalton Ray, Brian Cronnon, Alyssa (Patrick) Strawn; Eleven Great Grandchidren, One Great Great Grandson; several Nieces and Nephews.
