Georgia gas prices have steadily declined during the past couple of weeks, but that downward trend is likely coming to an end. Refineries are entering their seasonal maintenance period, which can place significant upward pressure on prices at the pump.
The Summerville City Council has announced a special called meeting that will be held this evening at Summerville City Hall. The meeting will take place at 5 PM. According to an agenda released last week, the council will be discussing the mid-year budget, along with other items. Also on the agenda, the Summerville City Council will be hearing a request to install a splash pad in Summerville. The public is invited to attend.
The Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit Drug Task Force made two arrests last week in southern Walker County. Forty-year-old Christopher Brian Mahle was arrested on Chattanooga Street in Lafayette and charged with a Schedule Two controlled substance charge. Forty-year-old Bobby Ray Carnes was arrested for possession of marijuana and valium. He was also charged with the use of a phone to make drug transactions. Carnes was arrested on Simmons Flat Road in the Halls Valley Area, just north of the Chattooga County line. The Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit Drug Task Force serves Walker, Dade, Catoosa and Chattooga Counties.
The Georgia Department of Natural Resources is bringing back its controversial Coyote Challenge for a second year. The program was conceived of to rein in the growing coyote population across the state.
Weiss Lake played host to the Crappie USA event this past Saturday, February, 24, 2018. Over 100 anglers from several states were competing for not only the $7,700.00 in cash and prizes, but a chance to advance to the prestigious Cabala’s Crappie USA Classic.
State Senator Jeff Mullis (R-Chickamauga) has released his weekly legislative report from Atlanta. Crossover Day is coming up tomorrow in the legislature, the day that all bills must be to either to the House or Senate to be considered for passage. Mullis says that one major piece of legislation passed by the Senate last week dealt with he expansion of broadband access in rural Georgia. Senate Bill 402, which passed the Senate on Friday, will lay the groundwork for public-private partnerships to expand broadband coverage to under-served areas, and could improve internet access for thousands of rural Georgians.
