On Thursday night a Centre Alabama man was arrested after he led law enforcement on a high-speed chase. The suspect has been identified as 44-year-old Jason Day.
D&S Produce and Mercantile will have a Grand Opening Ribbon Cutting on Monday. The business is a small mercantile shop specializing in fresh produce, local honey, pecans, jams and jellies, preserves and syrup. In addition to their food items, they also offer farmhouse and rustic style home décor and furniture. The business is open Wednesdays – Saturday. The Ribbon Cutting is being hosted by the Chattooga County Chamber of Commerce an Summerville Main Street and will take place at 11 AM tomorrow, Monday, August 15th.
Several Rome High School football players are being honored for helping a woman involved in a wreck. The young men assisted a fifty-year-old woman who was trapped in her car after an accident near the high school last week.
The mission of Wreaths Across America (WAA) is to Remember the fallen, Honor those that serve and their families, and Teach the next generation the value of freedom. Although the organization is best known for laying veterans’ wreaths on headstones of our fallen each December on Wreaths Across America Day (December 17th this year), the WAA mission is year-round and supported by the efforts of thousands of dedicated local volunteers throughout the country.

Today is the deadline to sign your child up for fall sports with the Summerville Recreation Department.
Summerville Police responded to a call at the Circle K on the Lyerly Highway on Wednesday of this week after a call about theft. When officers arrived on the scene, they spoke with Shuan Prince of CSC Service Works – a company based out of Norcross that own the air machine at the gas station. Prince showed the officer damage to the air vending machine and where someone had cut into the machine with either a plasma cutter or a gas cutting torch and had stolen an estimated $300 from the machine. Prince said that he wanted a report on file and said that the thieves might target other machines located in Summerville. The incident was turned over to an investigator.
A thirty-year-old Summerville woman was arrested earlier this week after Summerville Police observed her to be under the influence while walking on Bittings Avenue. When an officer approached the woman she began performing, what appeared to the officer, a sobriety test by removing her shoes and standing on one leg. When the officer asked what she was doing, she told the officer that she knew “how it goes” when a person has to provide a sobriety test. The woman at first told the officer that she had vertigo, but later admitted to drinking alcohol and told the officer she was walking to her ex-husband’s house. Brittany Leigh Sturgeon was arrested and booked into the Chattooga County Jail on charges of being a pedestrian under the influence.
